SALEM, Ore. (AP) – The Oregon Health Authority has certified five more groups to coordinate treatment for low-income patients with state-funded health care. State officials say the new coordinated care organizations will start up Sept. 1. They join eight others that’ll begin operating today. Altogether, the state says the groups have been certified to cover nearly 500,000 people.

NEWPORT, Ore. (AP) – Oregon officials say contractors are ready to start removing a 66-foot-long dock that washed ashore from the Japanese tsunami. State Parks and Recreation spokesman Chris Havel says workers spent yesterday preparing Agate Beach near Newport for the start of the project. The actual removal of the dock that wash ashore June 5 is set to begin later today.

UNDATED (AP) – Environmentalists are opposing plans to build a waterfront hotel, commercial building and wake-boarding park in Hood River – known for its world-class wind surfing – alleging that the project will harm endangered salmon and water quality in the Columbia river. Critics say the project is in critical salmon habitat, and will send dirty storm water runoff into the river.

LA GRANDE, Ore. (AP) – The swift action of a 9-year-old Eastern Oregon boy helped save a 10-year-old friend from a serious injury after an attacking dog knocked her off her bike. Reilly McLean of La Grande told The Observer newspaper he didn’t have time to be afraid. He grabbed the dog and pulled it away from Marie Anderson, who was being bitten on her arm and leg.
