PRINEVILLE, Ore. (AP () – – A 60-year-old man whose pickup ran out of gas on a forest road east of Prineville walked 20 miles over two days before he was found by his brothers. Crook County deputies and search and rescue volunteers also had been looking for David Whitson of La Grande. Undersheriff John Gautney says Whitson was scraped and dehydrated but otherwise in good shape.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A man who wounded two Portland police officers has been sentenced to 35 years in prison. Sixty-two-year-old Ralph Clyde Turner apologized in court yesterday for the shooting in March 2011 at his girlfriend’s home where the officers had responded to a report he was suicidal. One officer was wounded in the hand and another in the abdomen.

COOS BAY, Ore. (AP) – Police arrested a paid signature gatherer at the Coos County Fair after she declined to move away from the entrance and wouldn’t give her name to the arresting officer. Fifty-year-old Laurie Grooman of Newberg was charged with criminal trespassing and interfering with a police officer. The World newspaper says Grooman was collecting signatures for a home rule charter proposal that would alter Coos County government.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Ground has been broken on the Capitol grounds at Salem for a memorial honoring fallen Oregon State Police troopers. The Gazette-Times reports construction will begin when the project meets its $233,000 fundraising goal. The memorial is entirely funded by private donations.
