PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Firefighters jumped into action when a man took a car from the parking lot of a fire station in Portland. Police say they followed the stolen car that belonged to a fire captain. The 31-year-old suspect crashed into the front porch of a house and was trying to run away when the firefighters chased him down and held him for police.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A wildfire in southeast Oregon grew to 279 square miles over the weekend. It has also burned 218 square miles in Nevada. No occupied homes are threatened in the sparsely populated area, but a fire spokesman says several abandoned homes are threatened. There was little growth to the fire on Sunday, but firefighters are preparing for a shift in the winds.

ALBANY, Ore. (AP) – Two police officers were reported in serious condition following a weekend shootout with a fleeing suspect near Albany. A Benton County Sheriff’s deputy and a Salem police officer were injured. The suspect was also injured and was flown to a Willamette Valley hospital for treatment on Saturday. The Albany Democrat-Herald reports that police were searching for a man who had crashed a possibly stolen car.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A federal magistrate has ruled that a search of a Portland police sergeant’s home by two fellow officers was valid. The Oregonian reports the judge threw out the lawsuit filed by Sgt. Richard Braskett. He said the search was legal because Braskett’s wife consented to it. Braskett was under investigation at the time for alleged prescription drug abuse.
