SALEM, Ore. (AP) – The Marion County sheriff’s office has asked for new search and rescue teams in Oregon to bring “fresh eyes” to the search for a hiker missing in the Willamette National Forest. They are looking for 52-year-old Ronald Ohm of Portland, who disappeared Friday while hiking with friends near Russell Lake about a mile north of Mount Jefferson.
GRANTS PASS, Ore. (AP) – Police say a teenager drowned after he swam around a safety grate and into the underground channel of an irrigation canal in Grants Pass. The Mail Tribune reports the water was lowered yesterday so police could recover the body of 17-year-old Chase Davidson of Grants Pass.
LONDON (AP) – Oil company BP says it has agreed to sell its refinery in Carson, California and other West Coast assets to Tesoro Corp. BP says Tesoro is paying $2.5 billion cash for the refinery, pipelines, storage terminals and Arco-branded retail outlets in southern California, Arizona and Nevada. BP is also selling the Arco brand rights for northern California, Oregon and Washington and will lease them back from Tesoro.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Some state legislators want to make it easier for hair braiders to do their jobs without getting a cosmetology license. The Oregonian reports that some hair braiders have moved from Portland to Vancouver, Wash., where regulations are not as strict. Rep. Alissa Keny-Guyer says Oregon is criminalizing hair braiders.
