Here is the latest Oregon news from The Associated Press

UNDATED (AP) – Firefighter sin southern Oregon say they hope to soon be able to tell residents around Drews Reservoir that it is safe to go home. Meanwhile, the fire continues to grow on the southern end in California, where it is burning timber and sagebrush on the Modoc National Forest. It remains 25 percent contained at 92 square miles. The fire is one of four major blazes still burning across Oregon since a series of lightning storms last week.

BURNS, Ore. (AP) – Ranchers burned out by this summer’s range fires are getting a helping hand. The Oregon Cattlemen’s Association is distributing hay to help feed cattle left without forage. One rancher says the hay won’t make up for the rangeland lost to a fire, but every little bit helps. The donated hay is enough to feed about 1,000 cattle for 30 days.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Portland police gang detectives are investigating a shooting early today that wounded a man in an apartment parking lot. The victim was wounded in a leg. A suspect was seen leaving on foot in the Powellhurst-Gilbert neighborhood of southeast Portland.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Gov. John Kitzhaber is going to China and Japan to promote Oregon products and attract new investment to his state. The governor says he will leave Oct. 15 and return Oct. 25. Kitzhaber says Japan is Oregon’s most important export market for agricultural products and China is the state’s second-largest trading partner.
