Here is the latest Oregon news from The Associated Press

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Despite a 30 percent increase in Oregon’s workforce, the state’s worker comp claims are down sharply since the system was overhauled two decades ago. Workers’ Compensation Division administrator John Shilts tells the Statesman-Journal employers are saving money but workplaces are also safer. The number of accepted disability claims last year was about half the count in 1990.

MEDFORD, Ore. (AP) – An elderly Medford couple walked away unhurt from a fire on Interstate 5 near Gold Hill that destroyed their motor home. The Mail-Tribune reports 85-year-old Joy Adreon says she and her 86-year-old husband Leon were southbound yesterday afternoon when they heard a large popping sound coming from their vehicle that turned out to be the beginnings of a fire in their 1988 motor home.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The Skamania County dive team has recovered the body of a 12-year-old girl from Pine Hollow Reservoir east of Mount Hood. The Oregonian reports Wasco County authorities began searching for Fanney Garcia of The Dalles Friday when she was reported to have drowned on the north side of the lake.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Newly released statistics show the most common victim in a drowning incident in Oregon is a male. The Statesman Journal says he’s likely between the ages of 18 and 44, living somewhere in Clackamas or Multnomah County and died while in natural water, such as a river or lake.
