HILLSBORO, Ore. (AP) – A man has pleaded guilty to felony murder in the 2009 hanging death of a Forest Grove woman – a murder disguised as a suicide. The Oregonian reports that Joshua Nicholas was sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole after 25 years. Prosecutors say Nicholas admitted burglarizing 48-year-old Lori Fitzgerald’s house and killing her.
GRESHAM, Ore. (AP) – Police have arrested a 24-year-old Fred Meyer employee accused of using his cellphone to take pictures of a mother and her young daughter in a Gresham store changing room. Carl Louis Rainey was arrested for investigation of invasion of personal privacy. Police say the mother reported seeing a hand reach over the stall door with a cellphone Monday night. They say the woman yelled and the cellphone operator ran off. A short time later the man turned himself in.
COOS BAY, Ore. (AP) – A former martial arts teacher is on trial for the alleged rape of his wife at their Coquille home. Forest Freeman was arrested in March after his wife said he raped her following a night of heavy drinking. The wife testified this week the two had consensual sex, but her husband pinned her down and raped her when she got up to take a shower.
SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Gov. John Kitzhaber has ordered flags lowered to half-staff on Saturday in honor of an Oregon soldier killed in Afghanistan. Kitzhaber calls Private First Class Andrew Keller of Tigard “a proud Oregonian and a dedicated solider.” The 22-year-old soldier died Aug. 15 when enemy forces attacked his unit.
