PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Firefighters are facing difficult and remote terrain in their battle to contain several Oregon wildfires. Crews say a fire burning on the Warm Springs reservation was 7 percent contained yesterday after charring 13 square miles. In the northeastern corner of Oregon, officials are sending more resources to a blaze that’s burned about 20 square miles of Oregon and Washington against the border with Idaho. It was 0 percent contained.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A 25-year-old Portland woman has pleaded not guilty to federal charges in a Northwest crime spree that claimed four lives. The Oregonian reports that Holly Ann Grigsby was arraigned yesterday in U.S. District Court in Portland. A grand jury indictment accuses Grigsby and 32-year-old David “Joey” Pedersen of Salem of promoting and funding a movement to “purify” and “preserve” the white race through murder.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Federal prosecutors say two men arrested after Portland police found 22 pounds of meth in their car have pleaded not guilty to drug charges. The U.S. attorney’s office says 42-year-old Bladimir Nunez-Maciel and 26-year-old Marlon Rovello Paz entered their pleas yesterday to charges of possession of and conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine. Trial is set for Oct. 23.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The Oregon Humane Society says four of the 10 pit bulls seized from a Beaverton home after a report of animal abuse will be available for adoption Friday. The dogs were seized Wednesday after neighbors reported seeing at least two animals hit with a shovel and a hammer. Police arrested four people for investigation of animal abuse and animal neglect.
