Here is the latest Oregon news from The Associated Press

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – A Salem man charged with murder in a fatal confrontation in a Walmart parking lot had been released from the county jail three weeks earlier because of overcrowding. The Salem Statesman Journal says 41-year-old Mark Edward Brown was ordered held without bail at his arraignment yesterday on charges of murder and unlawful use of a weapon. Brown was arrested in the Monday shooting death of 28-year-old Bryan John Lee Knorr. Brown had previously been in jail on drug charges.

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – Oregon State Police say a 21-year-old man who climbed a wire fence along a Eugene-area freeway overpass, then dropped 25 to 30 feet onto southbound Interstate 5, is expected to survive. The man was taken yesterday to a local hospital due to injuries that police described as serious. The Register-Guard reports the man was not struck by any vehicles.

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – The owner of what’s billed as a medical marijuana “resource center” in Eugene has been charged with illegal pot dealing and money laundering. The operation, called Kannabosm (KAN’-nuh-baz-uhm), provides marijuana to people who use the drug legally for medical reasons. The Eugene Register-Guard reports police arrested 58-year-old Curtis Dean Shimmin (SHI’-min) last week. An affidavit says patrons paid not only membership fees but also street prices for marijuana as well.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – A Salem judge has ruled against putting a second marijuana legalization measure on Oregon’s ballot. The Statesman Journal reports the decision from Judge Mary James yesterday upholds a secretary of state decision that the measure didn’t have enough valid signatures. The failed measure would have amended the Oregon Constitution to legalize marijuana use by adults and allow lawmakers to regulate it in connection with children and public safety.
