CULVER, Ore. (AP) – The Jefferson County sheriff says he believes a 73-year-old Madras man and his adult son both died during a water skiing outing on a central Oregon lake. Sheriff Jim Adkins tells KTVZ-TV that the body of the son, 37-year-old Mark Harris of Madras, was recovered from Lake Billy Chinook yesterday. Divers searched the murky water, looking for the man’s father, Eugene Harris. The search was halted last night but Adkins said it would resume today, probably with sonar units.

ALBANY, Ore. (AP) – A 17-year-old boy indicted on a murder charge in the death of his 69-year-old uncle has pleaded not guilty in Linn County Circuit Court. The teen was remanded to adult court yesterday and booked into the county jail. He’d been held in a juvenile detention facility since Aug. 6. Sheriff’s detectives found Gary Baker dead on Aug. 8 on his five-acre property.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A Salem couple accused of filming sex acts with their two grade school-age daughters were confronted by a friend on Facebook who threatened to turn them in if they didn’t do so themselves. Salem police arrested the couple on Tuesday. A federal indictment accuses them of producing child pornography. The Associated Press is withholding their names to protect the victims’ identities. The children are in protective custody with the Oregon Department of Human Services.

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – The University of Oregon has sped up plans for random drug tests of athletes. The school announced Wednesday that the policy allowing the tests went into effect as of Sept. 1. The Eugene Register-Guard reports the school earlier planned to hold off on the tests until after a public hearing on the policy in October.
