SPRINGFIELD, Ore. (AP) – The Royal Caribbean call center in Springfield is hiring another 140 workers. The center now has more than 500 employees and plans to have 900 in the next few years. The Register-Guard reports entry level workers start at about $10 an hour, and full-timer are eligible for benefits, including health insurance and discounts on cruises.

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – The Eugene City Council hears from coal train opponents and supporters at tonight’s meeting as it considers a resolution opposing shipments from Wyoming and Montana to a proposed export terminal at the Port of Coos Bay. Opponents are concerned about unhealthy coal dust blowing off the trains the pass through the city. Supporters say the $250 million terminal at Coos Bay would create jobs.

SHADY COVE, Ore. (AP) – A firefighting helicopter pilot is OK after crashing in rugged terrain near Shady Cove. Authorities say the helicopter had dropped water on a grass-clipping fire at Joseph Stewart State Park on yesterday afternoon when it suddenly lost power and went down on a forested hillside. The crashed helicopter belongs to Columbia Basin Helicopters in Baker City.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – A ribbon-cutting ceremony with local officials and an Oscar-winning actress officially opened the Oregon State Hospital Museum of Mental Health. Actress Louise Fletcher, who played Nurse Ratchet in the 1975 film, “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest,” attended the event Saturday in Salem. The Statesman Journal says the museum tells the story of Oregon State Hospital and Oregon mental health treatment.
