NEW YORK (AP) – An Egyptian-born preacher and two men brought from England to New York to face terrorism charges are returning to court today. Abu Hamza al-Masri will enter a plea to charges that he conspired with Seattle men to set up a terrorist training camp in Oregon and helped abduct 16 hostages in Yemen in 1998.

BEND, Ore. (AP) – The Deschutes (De-SHOOTS) County sheriff’s office says a shot apparently fired by a man trying to hunt a deer went zipping over the head of a man working at a Bend cemetery. Deputies went to Deschutes Memorial Gardens last evening after an employee reported hearing a shot whiz over his head and a man’s shouts in the distance. The worker was not hurt. Later a nearby resident was arrested for investigation of unlawful use of a weapon, reckless endangering, disorderly conduct and hunting during prohibited hours.

BEND, Ore. (AP) – An inmate who escaped from the Klamath County Jail grounds Thursday was arrested last night during a traffic stop in Bend. Sheriff Tim Evinger says Robert Banes was driving a van that was pulled over by Bend police for running a stop sign. KTVZ reports Banes tried to drive off but stopped when officers used a Taser. Banes escaped from a jail work detail while taking out garbage.

ROCKAWAY BEACH, Ore. (AP) – Tillamook County plans to scrap its tsunami warning sirens. County officials tell The Oregonian that residents will either be alerted by the earthquake itself, or by phone or the Internet. Some residents have objected, setting up Facebook page called SOS Save Our Sirens in Tillamook County.
