GRESHAM, Ore. (AP) – Police say a nearby officer responded to an alarm at a Gresham jewelry story within two minutes this morning but the burglar got away. The burglar broke a glass door and large window of the Kays Jewelers store at about 3:30 a.m. and damaged a display case inside. Investigators are checking surveillance video.
BEND, Ore. (AP) – Marsha Phelps was hiking with friends, climbing over boulders near Bend, when she thought she put her hand on a sticker bush. But when she pulled her arm back she saw a foot-long rattlesnake biting down on her finger. KTVZ reports Phelps and three other women hiked out of the Crooked River Canyon area Monday until they could call 911. A helicopter flew her to St. Charles Medical Center-Bend where she received an anti-venom injection and is recovering from a swollen arm.
