GRANTS PASS, Ore. (AP) – Police say a man who assaulted a male protester outside the Planned Parenthood health center in Grants Pass ended up stabbed by the protester. The Grants Pass Daily Courier reports police handcuffed the protester and took him into custody yesterday afternoon with blood on his clothing. Lt. Dennis Ward said the protester was being detained during the investigation. There was no immediate word on the condition of the man police said was stabbed multiple times in the abdomen and at least once in the neck.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A federal judge has ruled that information seized from a college student’s laptop and cell phone during a rape investigation may be used at the man’s trial on terrorism charges. Prosecutors say they have no plans to do so. The defense team for Mohamed Mohamud argued that the FBI used a 2009 Oregon State Police rape investigation as a front for their own surveillance. U.S. District Court Judge Garr King said the investigation wasn’t tainted by the rape investigation evidence.
CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. (AP) – Authorities say two 20-year-old Marines from Camp Pendleton have been arrested for shooting out the windows of more than two dozen stores and vehicles, including a car with a woman inside. Orange County Sheriff’s spokesman Jim Amormino said yesterday that Joseph Nahale of Fremont and Jesse Ivie of Gresham, Ore. have been booked on suspicion of felony vandalism and shooting into an occupied vehicle after they were pulled over and found with high-powered pellet guns.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A federal appeals court has revived a complaint filed against Oregon State University officials by the creators of a conservative-leaning student newspaper. The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals said Tuesday it had “little trouble” finding constitutional violations on the part of university officials. It reversed a lower-court decision to dismiss the case. Supporters of The Liberty filed the lawsuit in 2009, alleging that university President Ed Ray and other school officials granted the official campus newspaper numerous distribution bins while arbitrarily limiting The Liberty’s reach.
