Taking a look at Coast Radio Sports…
Tony Woods scored a career high 17 points as Oregon remained undefeated on the court with a 67-45 victory over Jacksonville State last night in Eugene. E.J. Singler added 11 points; Dominic Artis had ten for the Ducks who are 4-and-0 and off to their best start in five years.
Siuslaw Cross Country standout Mitchell Butler is Coast Radio Sports’ Athlete of the Week… running in the 12th Nike Border Clash featuring the top 40 distance runners in Oregon and Washington he finished 25th overall with a personal best time of 14:21. Honorable Mention goes to his teammates Matthew Campbell and Mack Marbas who each posted personal bests of 14:37 and 14:49 respectively.
Thompson Signs with Beavers
Pat Casey has won two College Baseball World Series as head coach of the Oregon State Beavers and he’s been talking with some local talent.
Pat Casey – “I think he is the epitome of what it means to be an Oregon State Baseball player. Terrific young man with terrific heart; very very talented; just fits into what we do. Very smart.”
Jake Thompson, a senior at Siuslaw High School made an informal decision earlier this year to commit to the Beavers… he signed a formal Letter of Intent last week. Casey says when he hits the recruiting trail he sees players with a lot of talent but not as much heart… or players with a lot of smarts… but not quite as much talent.
Pat Casey – “And then there’s guys like Jake where you’re going this is the guy. I am a hundred percent confident that this guy fits in our program. Obviously he had to be talented enough to be here and he’s a special athlete. Not only in baseball but in basketball and football also.”
Thompson’s prowess on the mound as a right handed pitcher is what drew Casey and the Beavers’ attention.
