MEDFORD, Ore. (AP) – The Jackson County Sheriff’s Department is offering a $5,000 reward to help find a bank robber who escaped from jail last week. Authorities are searching for 42-year-old Bradley William Monical, who was awaiting trial in March for a 2010 bank robbery in Ashland. Investigators say he stood on another inmate’s shoulders, removed a piece of metal mesh from the roof covering, and jumped into the nearby tree. The tree he jumped into has been cut down, as well as several others.
ASTORIA, Ore. (AP) – A Coast Guard hearing into the sinking of the fishing vessel Lady Cecelia reconvenes today in Warrenton. The 70-foot trawler sank March 10 off the coast of southern Washington, and four people died. It was discovered on Sept. 9 about 20 miles off Point Ledbetter near Willapa Bay, Wash. The Daily Astorian reports that Coast Guard investigating officers heard testimony from family and associates of the crew during previous hearings.
BOISE, Idaho (AP) – The Boys Scouts of America and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints have agreed to settle a lawsuit filed by a Portland man who said they didn’t do enough to stop a Scout troop leader from sexually abusing children. The Idaho Statesman reports that a document filed Nov. 15 in U.S. District Court in Boise says both sides agreed to an undisclosed monetary settlement. Oregon attorney Gilion Dumas represents the Portland man and says the settlement will be final once a judge approves a request from both sides to dismiss the suit.
BEND, Ore. (AP) – Two webcams mounted on the top of a 90-foot communication tower are helping firefighters scan for wildfires in central Oregon. The Bulletin reports that crews with Lake Chinook Fire & Rescue will be able to access the camera images from a smartphone or laptop computer. The webcams provide a 360-degree view of the 40-square-mile district near Lake Billy Chinook and Culver, as well as the edges of the Crooked River National Grasslands, Deschutes National Forest and Warm Springs Indian Reservation.
