SALEM, Ore. (AP) – The Marion County district attorney’s office says a grand jury has indicted the estranged husband of a 30-year-old Salem-area woman in her shooting death. David Paul Eaton is scheduled for arraignment Thursday on the murder indictment. The district attorney has identified the victim in the Nov. 26 shooting as Elena Eaton.

COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. (AP) – Law enforcement officers in the Willamette Valley town of Cottage Grove say a 40-year-old man was arrested after a report of a man with a blanket approaching two children in a yard. KVAL-TV reports Hailie Hume said she and her two young sons were in front of their home Monday while her husband was on the roof hanging Christmas lights. She says she turned away briefly, then turned back to see a man coming into her yard, holding a blanket with his arms outstretched.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Portland police say they arrested six people after a dispute between the operators of several downtown food carts and a group of street youth turned violent. The Oregonian reports yesterday’s fight involved as many as 15 youths facing off against several cart operators. One cart operator suffered a minor hand injury. Police recovered a pocket knife.

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. (AP) – Springfield police have arrested a 62-year-old woman and booked her into the Lane County Jail after she allegedly put two cats into a trash bag and threw it into the Willamette River. The unidentified Springfield woman was booked for investigation of attempted first-degree aggravated animal abuse. Two police officers rescued the cats. They were checked by a veterinarian and are likely to be placed up for adoption.
