PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A look at a Facebook page identified as belonging to Jacob Tyler Roberts shows the 22-year-old hanging out with friends much like other Facebook pages – but with a cryptic cover photo at the top. The photo is of a wall painted with “Follow Your Dreams” with the word “Cancelled” stamped across the message. Roberts opened fire with an assault rifle in a suburban Portland mall Tuesday, killing two adults and wounding a teenager before shooting himself to death.
SEATTLE (AP) – A series of public hearings around Washington on a proposed coal export terminal near Ferndale are ending with the arguments clearly drawn. Supporters at last night’s hearing in Vancouver said it would be a boost for the economy and create jobs. Opponents are concerned about long coal trains, dust and environmental risk. The $600 million terminal proposed by SSA Marine of Seattle is the largest of five proposed terminals in Washington and Oregon to ship coal from Montana and Wyoming to power plants in Asia.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – At the request of a federal mediator, Pacific Northwest grain terminal companies and the longshore union have talked twice this week in an effort to reach a contract agreement. John Arnold of the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service said that after meeting Tuesday and yesterday, both parties agreed they need more time to review their options. No additional talks are scheduled.

The Register-Guard says police identified the woman who died yesterday as 58-year-old Jolene Louise Parrish of Eugene. She was hit Tuesday evening. The van was driven by a 60-year-old Eugene woman.
