PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Newly unsealed court documents show why officials think a Portland-area homicide suspect also killed in Washington. At the request of KGW, a Clackamas County judge unsealed search warrants for Erik Meiser. He’s undergoing a mental evaluation at Oregon State Hospital for his aggravated murder charge in the September death of Fritz Hayes. The warrant says after his arrest Meiser told investigators he stabbed a man in a tent last summer at a campsite along the Cowlitz River at Kelso.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Police have made an arrest in the killing of a woman whose body was found in her Portland apartment on Christmas. The U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force arrested 37-year-old Michael Kirkland yesterday at his home in Portland. He’s jailed on an aggravated murder charge in the death of Jaime Lyn Larson.

CHARLESTON, Ore. (AP) – Federal wildlife officials say a 160-yard-long oil sheen is visible as waves pound a grounded crab fishing vessel off the Oregon coast near Charleston. The Coast Guard hopes to begin efforts today to patch and remove the vessel. The World newspaper reports that the Newport-based 39-foot boat Robert Henry hit the rocks early Wednesday and started to break apart yesterday. The Coast Guard earlier rescued three fishermen aboard the boat.

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – Multnomah County Judge Michael McShane has been renominated to serve on the federal court bench in Eugene. President Barack Obama nominated McShane back in September, but the Senate failed to act on the nomination before Wednesday’s close of the congressional session. If confirmed by the Senate, McShane would succeed Michael Hogan, who took senior status in 2011.
