Here is the latest Oregon news from The Associated Press

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – The legislative tie that fostered a relatively collegial and bipartisan spirit in Salem for the past two years is coming to an end. Democrats will retake firm control of Oregon’s state government today. In the state House, an even split between Republicans and Democrats forced the parties to resolve every issue with a bipartisan agreement. The 77th Legislature will convene for the first time with a more liberal House and a more conservative Senate. Democratic Gov. John Kitzhaber also will deliver his annual state of the state address to a joint session of the House and Senate.

ASHLAND, Ore. (AP) – A federal investigator says a helicopter owned by Brim Aviation in Ashland had only about 20 ounces of fuel on board when it crashed in Texas last November. National Transportation Safety Board investigator Mitchell Gallo says the Hughes 369D rotorcraft’s operating manual requires the helicopter to maintain a minimum of about two gallons of fuel. He says the helicopter’s auxiliary fuel tank was empty. The Ashland Daily Tidings says the cause of the crash has not been determined. Gallo says there was a loss of engine power. Authorities say 23-year-old Jonathan David Suhr of McLean, Texas, died in the crash.

BEAVERTON, Ore. (AP) – Beaverton police say a gas station worker was injured after a 73-year-old driver crashed his SUV into a gas station mart. KATU-TV says Gabriel Sugarman of Beaverton crashed into the building of the Chevron station Sunday afternoon while trying to park his Cadillac Escalade. Police say the impact collapsed an interior wall, which fell on a female clerk. Sugarman told officers he pushed the accelerator instead of the brake when he was parking. He was cited for careless driving.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Anti-virus software entrepreneur John McAfee has moved to Portland, hoping to complete a number of media projects about his life. The 67-year-old told The Oregonian on Saturday he’ll live there for the next 18 months. He is collaborating with a local illustrator on a graphic novel about his experiences in Belize, where authorities want to question him as “a person of interest” in the Nov. 11 killing of American expatriate Gregory Faull. McAfee has denied any involvement. McAfee is the creator of the McAfee antivirus program. The computer software company, in which he sold his stake in the early 1990s, has its world headquarters in Santa Clara, Calif.
