Here is the latest Oregon news from The Associated Press

BEND, Ore. (AP) – For the third time in less than two years a police dog tracked down Jason Daryl Walter after a chase in Bend. A Deschutes County sheriff’s deputy had tried to pull him over yesterday for a traffic stop, but he took off and fled on foot. KTVZ reports Walter was found less than an hour later hiding in rocks along the Deschutes River Trail. He’s jailed on a parole violation.

CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) – Police suspect the same man is responsible for attacks on two women at Corvallis. In the latest assault on Saturday night a man in a black ski mask tackled a woman from behind and struck her several times. He ran off when she put up a fight. The assault was less than a mile from a similar attack on Jan. 16 on the Oregon State University campus.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Congressman Earl Blumenauer says he expects Oregon voters will legalize marijuana within the next decade. He told a town hall meeting in Portland yesterday that legalization is gaining momentum after the approval by voters in November in Colorado and Washington. KATU reports Blumenauer wants Congress to clear up the government’s response to states and not interfere with local voters who approve the drug.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A trail runner from San Francisco, 31-year-old Rickey Gates, was the first to make it up 40 flights of stairs to the top of the U.S. Bancorp Tower in Portland. He made it yesterday in just over 10 minutes. He’s training for next month’s Empire State Building Run in New York. The Oregonian reports more than 300 people took part in the Kaiser Permanent Fight for Air Climb to raise money for the American Lung Association.
