PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Police say a man was taken into custody following a traffic crash in southeast Portland that killed two people. The two victims in the crash Saturday evening have been identified as 55-year-old Paul Lawrence Knepper and his 90-year-old mother Hazel Agnes Knepper. A police statement says that investigators have learned that a Cadillac SUV went through a stop sign and hit the Toyota Corolla driven by Paul Knepper. Police say 29-year-old Daniel Troy Johnson is facing two counts of second-degree manslaughter and other charges including DUII. Three people in the SUV fled on foot. A fourth had minor injuries.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A Southwest Portland man whose body was found on Saturday died of blunt force trauma to his head. Police have identified the man as 25-year-old Charles Anthony Weber. The man’s body was found early Saturday inside a home after officers responded to a report of a disturbance and assault. Autopsy results were released Sunday.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Convicted murderer Gary Haugen’s request to be executed will be heard by the state Supreme Court this week. The seven justices will hear oral arguments Thursday on whether the twice-convicted murderer can legally reject an unconditional reprieve issued by Gov. John Kitzhaber in 2011. Kitzhaber’s action blocked the execution two weeks before it was scheduled to take place. The Statesmen Journal reports Haugen won the first round in Marion County Circuit Court.

ALBANY, Ore. (AP) – Police in Albany are investigating what appears to be an acid spill on a city bus seat. According to the Corvallis Gazette-Times, Sgt. Stephanie Warren says a man on Friday sat on the seat and the acid burned through his pants, but he was not injured. Warren says when the bus driver tried to clean up the seat with a general cleaner, she started developing respiratory problems. The bus was taken to an Albany Fire Department station, where it was found the substance was likely acid.
