Here is the latest Oregon news from The Associated Press

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Democrats in the Oregon House are releasing more information about their plan to raise tax revenue from wealthy individuals and businesses. House leaders say their plan would target individuals earning more than $125,000 and households earning at least $250,000. They’d also eliminate a cap on the corporate minimum tax. The House Revenue Committee takes up the proposal today.

GRANTS PASS, Ore. (AP) – A stolen car chased by Oregon State Police troopers crashed yesterday on Highway 238 east of Grants Pass when the driver lost control after running over spike strips. The driver, a 29-year-old Grants Pass man, was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Police say he also was involved in a couple of recent police chases.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A Portland apartment resident who went looking for the cause of a fire alarm found flames and smoke in a unit two floors below his own and grabbed the nearest fire extinguisher. Carl Sizelove told The Oregonian he was a California forest firefighter decades ago. As the 52-year-old man sprayed the fire extinguisher into the unit, he says the sprinklers came on. Firefighters soon arrived. Fire officials say the 55-year-old tenant in the unit that caught had been smoking while using an oxygen machine.

MULINO, Ore. (AP) – Clackamas County sheriff’s deputies responding to a tip found an alligator that was being kept in a shed in a rural area south of Portland. Sgt. Robert Wurpes says that although the person who lived at the Mulino property had moved, a relative had been returning to care for the 4-foot-long alligator named Wally. A reptile specialist was called to remove and properly care for the alligator.
