PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Portland’s TriMet mass transit system has 70 executives and managers earning more than $100,000 a year. KOIN reports that compares to 51 high-paid executives for the Denver transit system which carries a similar number of passengers. TriMet General Manager Neil McFarlane defends the salaries and says the agency needs a talented workforce. McFarlane makes $221,000 a year.
EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – A Springfield man pleaded guilty in federal court Wednesday to counterfeiting money with a computer printer. The Register-Guard reports Richard Blackburn will be sentenced July 30. Blackburn was arrested in April at a Springfield house where police found nearly $1,200 in fake $50, $20, $10 and $5 bills. They also seized computers and an inkjet printer.
COOS BAY, Ore. (AP) – Rangers plan to remove about half of the 25 pay tubes at federal park sites along the Oregon coast. The tubes are used to collect day-use fees at sites in the Siuslaw National Forest and the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area, but they are being vandalized by thieves. The World reports if pay tubes are removed, visitors would still need to pay the fee at another location or buy a pass for Oregon parks.
ROSEBURG, Ore. (AP) – Roseburg police say a 34-year-old woman has been accused of giving her teenage son a cookie with medical marijuana in it. The Roseburg News-Review reported that Terrianne Rowe was arrested early yesterday. She was booked with bail set at $100,000. Police say the son is 14.
