PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Falling trees have closed Highway 30 in northwest Portland. ODOT says several large trees fell across the road early today and damaged utility lines. The department says all lanes of the highway will be closed much of the day between St. Johns Bridge and Northwest Kittridge Ave.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Environmental groups are appealing the state approval of a dredging permit for the Port of Coos Bay, where a Canadian company wants to develop a $7 billion terminal to export natural gas from the Rockies to Asia. The appeal was filed Tuesday with the Oregon Court of Appeals in Salem.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – The state Board of Parole has told a House legislative committee it won’t reconsider its decision to release an Oregon man who killed a John Day police officer in 1992. The Oregon House Judiciary Committee held an informational hearing yesterday on the board’s decision to release Sidney Porter on June 7. District attorneys, police chiefs and sheriffs have asked the parole board to reverse its decision, telling lawmakers that Porter is still a threat to the community.

ALOHA, Ore. (AP) – A medical examiner says a 34-year-old man has died of injuries suffered last week in a fire at his family’s suburban Portland town house. The Oregonian reports that Gang Huo has died at a Portland hospital. The man’s 11-year-old son and the boy’s mother were also injured in the May 23 fire in Aloha. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
