PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The director of the Oregon Health Authority says the state human resources department will review whether his staff did anything wrong in managing a survey of children’s dental health during a Portland campaign on fluoridation. Director Bruce Goldberg tells The Oregonian the inquiry will cover all staff members who dealt with the study. Voters this month soundly rejected the city’s plan to begin fluoridation.
CAVE JUNCTION, Ore. (AP) – Fire has destroyed the post office in the Southern Oregon town of Cave Junction. The Grants Pass Daily Courier reports by the time the flames were out yesterday morning, only walls were standing. Mayor Carl Jacobson says it is a catastrophe for the town of 1,900 people. Jacobson says they are looking for a building to use as a temporary post office.
EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – A woman who pleaded guilty in the kidnapping and murder of a Eugene man last year has been sentenced to life in prison with a chance for parole after 30 years. The Register-Guard reports that 19-year-old Mercedes Crabtree said in court she helped with the crimes because another suspect had threatened her life.
EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – In five seasons as head baseball coach at Oregon, George Horton has set a high bar. This season he has the Ducks repeating as both a national seed in the NCAA tournament and a regional host. Oregon will play against South Dakota State at PK Park tonight. It is Oregon’s third appearance in the NCAA tournament since bringing back its baseball program in 2009.
