Local Sports – Athletes of the Year – NCAA Regional Baseball

 

Siuslaw Senior’s Jake Thompson and Katy Potter were named Athletes of the Year.  Jake Thompson had outstanding season over the past year in Football, Basketball and baseball.  Katy Potter claimed an individual championship in the girls 4-A Cross County Championships, followed by a standout track and field season.

 

Friday at the NCAA Corvallis Regional it was a Dylan Davis’ walk-off two-run double leading Oregon State to a 5 – 4 comeback victory over Texas-San Antonio Friday night. Saturday night,   Ben Wetzler scattered four hits and a run in a complete-game effort and Danny Hayes drove in three give the Beavers a 6-1 victory over Texas A&M Sunday at Goss Stadium. With the victory, OSU claims the Corvallis Regional Championship and advances to an NCAA Super Regional matchup with Kansas State at Goss Stadium.  The NCAA Super Regional will start either Friday or Saturday. The Wildcats defeated Arkansas Sunday and went 3-0 in the Manhattan Regional to advance.

 

Ryon Healy hit a two-run double in the eighth to give Oregon a 3-2 win against South Dakota State Friday night in the NCAA Eugene regional.  The tide turned Saturday as Oregon fell 1 – 0 to Rice. Sunday Tyler Baumgartner hit a home run and scored three runs and Oregon kept its season alive with a 6-1 victory against San Francisco on Sunday in the Eugene regional.  The Ducks will face Rice for a second time in regional play this evening at PK Park in Eugene.
