SEATTLE (AP) — The Chicago White Sox snapped an eight-game losing streak with a 7-5 victory over the Seattle Mariners yesterday. Alejandro De Aza and Alex Rios each had an RBI single in the 16th inning. De Aza’s tiebreaking hit came after the teams combined to make baseball history when Chicago scored five times in the top of the 14th, only to have Seattle complete an improbable rally on Kyle Seager’s tying grand slam off Addison Reed with two out.

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) — Iowa State senior Betsy Saina was pressed all the way by Wichita State’s Aliphine Tuliamuk-Bolton but pushed at the end to win the women’s 10,000 meters at the NCAA outdoor track and field championships last night. Saina took the lead with about four laps to go and surged down the stretch to win in 33 minutes and 8.85 seconds.

SEATTLE (AP) — For a change, Tom McNamara and the Seattle Mariners don’t have a clear idea of how the first round of baseball’s amateur draft will play out. The Mariners hold the 12th pick in today’s draft, a spot that has led to plenty of frequent flyer miles for McNamara and his staff as they tried to get a handle on who might be available when Seattle picks.

SEATTLE (AP) — Catcher Brandon Bantz has been selected from Triple-A by the Seattle Mariners to add depth with Jesus Sucre likely out a few days after getting hit on his left hand. Seattle continued its recent flurry of roster moves yesterday before closing out a series against the White Sox. Seattle transferred outfielder Franklin Gutierrez to the 60-day disabled list to clear a spot on the 40-man roster for Bantz and optioned infielder Carlos Triunfel to Triple-A Tacoma.

NEW YORK (AP) — An independent review panel has rescinded a red card given to Seattle Sounders FC forward Obafemi Martins, allowing him to play in this weekend’s Cascadia Cup matchup against rival Vancouver. Major League Soccer announced the decision yesterday. Martins was ejected for his foul on Chivas midfielder Gabriel Farfan in last Saturday’s game, but the Sounders appealed.
