SALEM, Ore. (AP) – The Service Employees International Union has reached a tentative contract agreement with the State of Oregon. The largest state employee union says the agreement reached early this morning averts a potential strike that could have happened as soon as Monday. The two-year contract still must be approved by rank-and-file union members.
OREGON CITY, Ore. (AP) – A woman who failed to care for eight horses on her property near Estacada was convicted Wednesday in Clackamas County Circuit Court of animal abuse. The lawyer for Edith Mae Karlin says she needed help, not prosecution, after knee replacement surgeries, pneumonia and financial problems limited her abilities. Prosecutors said she sherked her responsibilities.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A nurse discovered a gun in a bag in a patient’s room at Randall Children’s Hospital in Portland. KGW reports no one was in the room at the time Tuesday but police arrested two people when they returned – a 22-year-old woman who recently gave birth and a 35-year-old man who was visiting her.
EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – The mother of legendary distance runner Steve Prefontaine, 88-year-old year old Elfriede Prefontaine, died Tuesday at a Springfield hospital. Her daughter told The Register-Guard her mother was injured in a fall 12 days earlier at an assisted living facility in Eugene.
