GOLD BEACH, Ore. (AP) – The Curry County sheriff’s department says two men who died after rafting accidents in the Rogue River were killed by heart attacks, not drowning. Medical examiner reports say the stress of crashing rafts at the Picket Fence rapids contributed to the deaths on July 12 and last Wednesday. Both men were thrown into the water and were wearing life jackets.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The NTSB says two small planes likely collided in midair in October 2011 near Wilsonville because the pilots couldn’t see each other. The report released last week does not assign blame. It says views were obstructed by a wing, engine, door post and cabin roof. One plane with an instructor and student pilot made an emergency landing in a field. The other plane crashed, killing the pilot.

ST. HELENS, Ore. (AP) – A man shot by St. Helens police Saturday is in critical condition at a Portland hospital at last report. KGW reports police confronted Rogelio Rodriguez Martinez in front of a motel where he was upset and armed with a knife. Officers say he lunged at them. They tried using a Taser, but he kept coming, so they shot him.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The family of a Klamath Falls girl who was burned in a fluke fire at Doernbecher Children’s Hospital has notified officials of their intent to sue. The Oregonian reports a letter from a lawyer says hospital staff improperly recommended using olive oil to remove adhesive from her skin. Hospital officials have said the fire was not due to safety problems.
