ONTARIO, Ore. (AP) – Searchers have recovered the body of a 13-year-old boy who drowned in the Snake River while fishing with two friends. The Ontario Argus Observer reports that officers found his body yesterday near the railroad trestle where he fell in on Sunday. The sheriff said one of the boys jumped into the river to help his struggling friend, but couldn’t.

CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) – The Veterinary Teaching Hospital at Oregon State University won’t accept horses until next Tuesday due to an outbreak of equine influenza. Emergencies are an exception, but hospital officials want to prevent the spread of the virus that has infected at least three horses. The three infected horses have been placed in isolation.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A 44-year-old Oregon woman who was convicted of eight bank robberies a decade ago has been sentenced to prison for another four stickups. The U.S. attorney’s office says Lorinda Goodin has been sentenced to 23 years in prison as part of a plea deal for the robberies in Lane and Multnomah counties. She admitted 25 other holdups. Goodin also agreed to plead guilty in state courts to the multiple robberies.

SEASIDE, Ore. (AP) – The Seaside City Council plans to regulate outdoor lighting through a “dark sky” ordinance. The Daily Astorian reports the ordinance would require exterior lights to have translucent covers to eliminate glare or shielding that prevents direct light from shining on other people’s property. Lights from lasers or high intensity lights would be prohibited.
