COQUILLE, Ore. (AP) – The owner of Bay Area Ink is accused of trying shoot the owner of Flying Chicken Tattoo to eliminate his competition in North Bend. Bay Area Ink owner David Wonnacott has been arraigned in Coos County on charges of attempted murder, assault and being a felon in possession of a gun. Court papers say he assaulted flying Chicken Tattoo owner Brian Graham on July 31 as Graham drove up to his shop. He told police Wonnacott pointed a gun at him and said, “You’re in the wrong town.”
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Workers have started installing temporary, 9-foot-tall screens to prevent more suicides on Portland’s Vista Bridge. KATU-TV reports the work started yesterday and is expected to take about three weeks. Four people have jumped to their deaths from the bridge this year. KATU reports the temporary screens cost $236,000. The city is looking for funding for a permanent barrier that’s expected to cost between $2.5 million and $3 million.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Planners are trying to salvage work on the Columbia River Crossing that was declared dead after the Washington Legislature declined to contribute the state’s $450 million share to the project. Officials tell The Oregonian that Oregon planners are trying to resurrect the $3.4 billion project. Planners are facing a Sept. 30 deadline when Oregon’s $450 commitment expires.
EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – The Lane County Board of Commissioners fired county Administrator Liane Ricardson yesterday after a closed door session. The county said Richardson had violated county policy, but didn’t explain how. The Register-Guard reports the firing followed an investigation into how Richardson boosted her take-home pay by cashing out unused vacation or sick leave and deferred compensation.
