PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Portland Police say three people were injured in a gang-related shooting on the Portland waterfront on Saturday night. KATU-TV reports the shooting happened as hundreds of people were waiting for a private party to begin on the Portland Spirit. Sgt. Pete Simpson says police are looking for three people who ran away from the scene around 11 p.m. Police expect all three victims to survive their gunshot wounds, although one was in critical condition on Saturday night.
SEATTLE (AP) – King County, Wash., health officials say members of the public may have been exposed to a child with a confirmed case of the measles in mid-August in both Washington and Oregon. The child is an unvaccinated King County resident who was exposed to measles while traveling in Europe. This measles case is unrelated to previous cases in King County in July.
BANDON, Ore. (AP) – A mosquito infestation in Bandon, Ore., has residents buzzing about the restoration of the Bandon Marsh National Wildlife Refuge. The Oregonian reports the $10 million marsh restoration by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has created a fertile breeding ground for mosquitoes. Stores have run out of repellant, and for the first time in its 14 years of operation, the Bandon Dunes Golf Resort sprayed insecticide on its golf courses.
PENDLETON, Ore. (AP) – A dam that blocks nearly 50 miles of prime fish spawning habitat on the Walla Walla River is slated for removal. The dam is a gravel push-up dam. Efforts to remove them began in the 1990s. The Zell Ditch is one of the last. The East Oregonian reports the dams impede the spawning paths of salmon.
