MEDFORD, Ore. (AP) – Police are looking for a man who fatally stabbed a 38-year-old Medford woman at her apartment complex. Maria Rodriguez was seen arguing outside with the suspect Sunday evening when she was repeatedly stabbed. Investigators say witnesses tried to intervene, but the man menaced them with the knife before running off. The suspect was described as a Hispanic male in his mid-30s, 5-foot-7 and 180 pounds, wearing a blue or turquoise shirt.

MEDFORD, Ore. (AP) – Two men have been honored for saving another man’s life in Medford last month. John Bowling and Tyler Sparks came across a bicyclist who had collapsed during a ride Aug. 13. The two performed CPR, maintaining the patient’s airway and holding his neck in line to protect his spine, and they saved his life. For their efforts, Medford Fire-Rescue awarded them certificates of recognition yesterday.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The only moose herd in Oregon appears to have doubled in size in recent years, despite deaths in recent years from a parasite. The Oregonian says the herd numbers about 60 animals today, compared to 30 in 2006. The carotid worm problem was discovered in about 2010 when biologists captured a moose in Wallowa County to fit it with a radio collar.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – The Fairlift is celebrating its 20th year giving people a bird’s eye view of the Oregon State Fair. The Statesman Journal reports the owners of the Fairlift estimate they have transported more than 1 million riders over the past two decades. Bill Blake, Corky Erickson and C.W. Craven pay rent to the Oregon State Fair to have the Fairlift on the fairgrounds. While it’s around all year, its only use comes in the waning days of summer when thousands of Oregonians flock to the fair.
