Pirates Plunder Vikings

It was the battle of the undefeateds last night on the Far West League volleyball court and Marshfield remains that way today after holding off the Siuslaw Vikings 3-1.

The Vikings were tagged with their first loss of the season and fall to 4-1.  In other Far West League competition… Sutherlin beat Douglas in three; South Umpqua got by Brookings Harbor in four.  North Bend fell in a nonleague match to Cottage Grove 3-1.

In Coquille, the Reedsport Braves edged the Red Devils 3-2 for a nonleague win.

In Mapleton, the McKenzie Eagles downed the Sailors in three close-fought games for Mapleton’s first loss of the year.

On the schedule…

Viking Cross Country will be at the Highland Tree Farm just outside Molalla tomorrow.

Far West Football gets underway tonight for the Siuslaw Vikings as they host the South Umpqua Lancers.  The Vikings are coming off two non-league victories over Scio and Illinois Valley… the Lancers are one-and-one.  They edged Newport two weeks ago and lost to North Valley last week.

Elsewhere… Reedsport will host Waldport this evening; Mapleton will be at Alsea.

On the college gridiron… the Volunteer Army is descending on Eugene tomorrow as Tennessee faces the #2 Ducks at Autzen Stadium.  Kickoff is set for 12:30… the pregame show begins at 11 on KCST.

The Beavers are in the Beehive State where they’ll take on Utah in their Pac-12 opener.  That game kicks off at seven tomorrow night… airtime on KCFM is at six.
