MCMINNVILLE, Ore. (AP) – Authorities say a pilot whose plane crashed into the side of a house in Oregon has died, but a woman inside the dwelling was able to escape without injuries. The McMinnville Police Department says 56-year-old Charles W. Yochelson of Sheridan was piloting the plane when it crashed yesterday afternoon. The Yamhill County News-Register reports the woman escaped along with her pets.

ROSEBURG, Ore. (AP) – Authorities in southwest Oregon say a helicopter carrying two state employees conducting fish counts crashed into the South Umpqua River. An Oregon Fish and Wildlife Department spokeswoman told The Roseburg News-Review yesterday that biologist Holly Huchko suffered a broken back and biologist Eric Himmelreich had a broken vertebra. One of the helicopter’s owners identified the pilot as 55-year-old Fred Wittlake, who suffered a broken arm and broken ribs.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The Oregon School Activities Association has approved a reclassification plan that includes a major shift in Class 6A high school sports leagues. The plan approved yesterday means Portland public high schools will now compete at the 6A level for the next four years. It’s a move designed to cut down on travel costs.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Here’s one way to clean up City Hall. The Oregonian newspaper reports that Portland officials are planning to install showers on the first floor. The two showers would be for city employees who could use them after biking to work or working out during lunch.
