OREGON CITY, Ore. (AP) – Authorities say the suspect in the shooting of a police officer in Oregon City, south of Portland, is dead. The officer was shot responding to a house fire yesterday afternoon and flown to a hospital. Clackamas County sheriff’s Sgt. Dan Kraus told The Oregonian that the suspect was dead but no details were immediately disclosed.

BAKER CITY, Ore. (AP) – A commercial truck carrying 4,200 gallons of an industrial chemical crashed on Interstate 84 east of Baker City, prompting a hazmat response that closed the highway for several hours. Oregon State Police say 61-year-old Ronald Hanes of Sacramento, Calif., the truck’s driver, was injured and picked up by a passing vehicle. It wasn’t immediately clear what caused the 12:45 a.m. accident.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The acting chief of the Bonneville Power Administration is pledging to fix problems in the agency’s human resources department and says Bonneville will not tolerate retaliation against whistleblowers. Elliot Mainzer told the Oregonian yesterday that he’s committed to making sure nothing similar happens again. Recent audits found intentional manipulation of job applicant rankings that discriminated against veterans and other applicants.

UNDATED (AP) – Florida State is back in second place in the BCS standings, edging past Oregon behind first-place Alabama. Third-place Oregon plays Stanford Thursday night and a win is likely to push the Ducks back into second. The Seminoles and Ducks have exchanged positions in the BCS standings the last two weeks
