Here is the latest Oregon news from The Associated Press

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – Police say a man who randomly attacked another man walking in downtown Eugene yelled “knockout” as he knocked him to the ground. The assault Tuesday appears similar to “knockout” attacks in other parts of the country that are recorded on video. The Register-Guard reports police tracked down and arrested Christopher Branham, a transient. The victim was punched several times but not seriously injured. A witness came to his defense.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Protesters in Hillsboro interrupted a meeting at the headquarters of a moving company transporting a truckload of oil refinery equipment to a tar sands project in Canada. About 30 protesters walked through the company’s gates yesterday and into a meeting, where they blocked a projector screen, sang songs and left peacefully. The company is hauling an enormous load of equipment from the Port of Umatilla to Alberta, Canada.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The Oregon Supreme Court has denied the release of a man convicted as a 15-year-old of the 1990 rape and killing of a high school classmate. Yesterday’s decision leaves the question of releasing Conrad Engweiler to the Oregon Board of Parole and Post-Prison Supervision to decide whether he is a danger to others. He was convicted in 1990 of the aggravated murder of high school classmate Erin Reynolds.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – LaMarcus Aldridge had 31 points and a career-high 25 rebounds, prompting Portland fans to chant “MVP! MVP!” during the Trail Blazers’ 111-104 victory over the Houston Rockets last night. Robin Lopez added 16 points and 10 rebounds for the Blazers, who sit atop the Western Conference standings at 19-4.
