OREGON CITY, Ore. (AP) – A Lake Oswego man accused of killing his mother and nephew has been found fit for trial and able to assist in his own defense. A Clackamas County judge made the decision yesterday after receiving an Oregon State Hospital evaluation of Adrien Wallace. The Oregonian reports when asked about a plea agreement to avoid a death sentence, Wallace said all he wanted was a puppy and a garden.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A Portland State University student punched a man who tried to steal her backpack on campus. A security alert sent to students says she was walking Wednesday evening when the man demanded her backpack and punched her. She punched him in the face and he ran away.

TIGARD, Ore. (AP) – Police have broken up what they called a “very established” transient camp on property owned by the Oregon teachers union in Tigard. Officer Brian Orth told The Oregonian that Washington County work crews were enlisted this week to help clear tents, furniture and debris from the wooded area.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Oregon Congressman Peter DeFazio says he is against airplane passengers being allowed to talk on cellphones after takeoff. DeFazio’s comments came in response to the FCC chairman saying yesterday that there was no technical reason to keep the ban.
