PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A 450-ton shipment of oilfield equipment delayed by protests and weather in Eastern Oregon is due to arrive tonight or tomorrow morning in Idaho as planned. The “megaload,” bound for the Canadian tar sands oil development, got permission Tuesday to go in the daylight at elevations above 4,000 feet to avoid ice after dark. Environmentalists say the rig will contribute to global warming.
BEAVERTON, Ore. (AP) – An affidavit in a sex trafficking case says a girl alleges she was forced into prostitution in a Beaverton strip club at 13. The Oregonian reported yesterday the girl told investigators the manager at Stars Cabaret paid a Beaverton man in 2012 to have her provide sex acts. Authorities have arrested 42-year-old Steven Toth, the former manager, and 27-year-old Victor Moreno-Hernandez, a registered sex offender.
GRESHAM, Ore. (AP) – Police in the east Portland suburb of Gresham say a 21-year-old former lifeguard at Mount Hood Community College is accused of sexually abusing three underage victims. Samuel Patrick Melthratter was arrested yesterday at his home after a Multnomah County grand jury indicted him on multiple charges that included sex abuse and sodomy. Authorities believe the abuse occurred last summer.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The Salvation Army says somebody dropped three gold coins worth more than $4,000 into a kettle at Beaverton supermarket. The Krugerrands from South Africa, have been reported in kettles in North Dakota, Iowa and Indiana. The Salvation Army Portland Metro said yesterday the money was welcome during a shortened holiday season.
