2nd AP Oregon News Minute

Here is the latest Oregon news from The Associated Press

ALBANY, Ore. (AP) – An Albany woman says she suffered “a parent’s worst nightmare” after a school called to inquire whether her 9-year-old autistic son was coming to class. The Oregonian reports that Ashlee Ellefson’s son Lyfe Ellefson-Hamar was found alone on a school bus Tuesday, still wearing his seat belt. School officials say the boy spent nearly an hour in the empty bus garage before a district employee tracked him down. The district says the driver failed to check for students before he left the bus. The driver has been placed on leave.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Gov. John Kitzhaber today will discuss the latest enrollment numbers for Oregon’s troubled health insurance exchange. New figures released this week show that Cover Oregon has so far enrolled about 20,000 people in private insurance for January coverage. That’s far below original projections.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Former Congresswoman Elizabeth Furse plans to return to politics in Washington County. Furse told KATU she plans to run for a seat on the county commission. Furse is a Democrat who served six years in the U.S. House from 1993 to 1998 in a district that includes Washington County.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Nicolas Batum had 14 points, 10 rebounds and a career-high 14 assists for his fourth career triple-double in the Portland Trail Blazers’ 110-94 win over the Orlando Magic last night. LaMarcus Aldridge kept Portland in it despite a sluggish start and finished with 36 points and nine rebounds. The Blazers, who came in having lost four of their last six, avoided a season-high three-game losing streak.
