PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The Portland City Council has upheld a city bureau’s decision to deny a permit for this year’s Hempstalk Festival – an annual event to advocate for the decriminalization of marijuana. The city parks bureau says the organizers of the event have consistently failed to manage traffic, litter and drug use. Organizers say returning the event to downtown Portland will reduce parking problems because festivalgoers could use public transit.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – More Oregon hospitals are imposing restrictions on visitors to guard against the spread of flu. Legacy Health announced yesterday that patients can have no more than two visitors at a time. But Grant Walker of Asante hospitals in Medford, Ashland and Grants Pass tells Medford Mail Tribune that its experts don’t believe there is a larger than usual number of cases so far.

TROUTDALE, Ore. (AP) – A Troutdale police spokesperson says an officer who tried to stop a Ford Taurus on Wednesday for a minor traffic violation checked the car’s registration and found out it was stolen. At the Stark Street Bridge over the Sandy River, 26-year-old Rebecca Humphries got out of the moving car and jumped into the water. She was eventually pulled from the river.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A big rock has fallen on the Benson footbridge over Multnomah Falls, and the bridge and the trails at either end have been closed. The rock crashed through the deck and damaged the handrail. KGW-TV reports nobody was hurt.
