HILLSBORO, Ore. (AP) – A lawyer is using an unusual defense for a woman accused of felony hit-and-run in the Forest Grove crash that killed two young sisters playing in a pile of leaves in the street. A trial began yesterday in Washington County for 19-year-old Cinthya Garcia-Cisneros. The Oregonian reports that defense lawyer Ethan Levi told jurors Garcia-Cisneros did not report her involvement because she had not accepted it. He says she was upset and remained in denial and should be found not guilty.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Police say a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle that left the scene last night in Portland. The man was crossing Powell Boulevard in a crosswalk where a car in one lane had stopped, but the vehicle in another lane did not stop. The victim was taken to a hospital with traumatic injuries.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Multnomah County commissioners have agreed to pay a former jail inmate $260,000 to settle a lawsuit over medical problems he says stemmed from negligence in the jail. The Oregonian reports that Franklin Millner said in his lawsuit that he suffered more than a year of pain and tallied hundreds of thousands of dollars in medical bills to treat a foot that became swollen and infected. He says jail officials denied him access to his special medical shoes.

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – Freshman guard Jordan Mathews scored a season-high 32 points and California beat No. 17 Oregon 96-83 last night, defeating the Ducks for the 12th straight time. The Golden Bears shot 52.5 percent and had five players in double figures. Joseph Young scored 29 for the Ducks, who were held to 40.6 percent shooting overall.
