The Oregonian reports that the high court denied Haugen’s petition without comment yesterday. The newspaper says the decision effectively guarantees that Haugen will continue to live on Oregon’s death row for the duration of Gov. John Kitzhaber’s term in office.
BEND, Ore. (AP) – A lawyer who represents a Central Oregon journalist says she didn’t have sex with a Bend police officer who has resigned in the wake of an investigation into his encounters. WOODBURN, Ore. (AP) – Woodburn police officers say their commanders have retaliated against them for reporting misconduct and potential criminal activity among superiors. The Oregonian reports that the allegations come in a notice of intent to sue the city filed by a lawyer for three officers who says they have been disciplined for reporting misconduct.
BEND, Ore. (AP) – A central Oregon sheriff’s officer says one of four people burned when gasoline was poured on a weekend warming fire has died of his injuries. KTVZ-TV reports a Deschutes County sheriff’s official said that 56-year-old Donald Pierce of Sisters died at a Portland hospital burn unit.
