PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The Portland Association of Teachers canceled a scheduled meeting yesterday between union officials and Portland Public Schools. An Oregon Education Association official says the two sides had agreed the meeting would be confidential, but the school district violated that agreement. The Oregonian reports there was no immediate response from the district.

MEDFORD, Ore. (AP) – After nearly a year of negotiations, Medford, Ore., teachers have voted overwhelmingly to authorize a strike. Leaders of the Medford Education Association announced the vote results last night. About 95 percent of the union’s 600 members were present for the vote. The Medford Mail Tribune reports that the strike vote means teachers could walk off their jobs after giving 10 days’ notice, but when that notice will be given has not been announced.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Salem, Ore., police are warning women to be alert after 14 reports of a skinny young male in a hooded sweatshirt groping women and running away. The Salem cases date back to late October. Officer Heather Day says the groper’s behavior suggests he looks for opportunities to surprise victims from behind when they are distracted.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – A Marion County sheriff’s officer says two human skulls found in a cardboard box at a recycling center belonged to a now-deceased Oregon man whose relatives say he obtained them while prospecting for gold in the Philippines decades ago. Sgt. Chris Baldridge says they were accidentally thrown out and ended up Jan. 16 at a county recycling center in Brooks.
