SALEM, Ore. (AP) – People on the Oregon Health Plan are making fewer visits to the emergency room and more visits to primary care clinics. Those are the findings from a report released yesterday on Oregon’s year-old coordinated care organizations. Oregon Health Plan members made 13 percent fewer ER visits in the first nine months of 2013 when compared with 2011. The number of primary care visits jumped 16 percent in the year after CCOs launched.

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – The U.S. attorney’s office says a man who made threatening statements about having a gun and an underground bomb shelter has been sentenced to 41 months in federal prison for being a felon in possession of a firearm. Federal prosecutors say 46-year-old Scott Gorman has a prior felony conviction for unlawful use of a weapon.

GRANTS PASS, Ore. (AP) – Some federal research centers around the country will be focusing on helping farmers and foresters deal with climate change. The hubs will be at U.S. Department of Agriculture facilities, such as the U.S. Forest Service Pacific Northwest Research Station in Corvallis., Ore. They will assess local climate risks, such as drought and wildfire, then develop plans for dealing with them.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Gov. John Kitzhaber and several state lawmakers want the state to look at allowing graduates of Oregon high schools to attend community colleges for free. The idea was presented yesterday to a state Senate committee, which voted to order a study of the concept.
