SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Oregon courts could get more discretion in which drunken drivers are required to use breath alcohol monitoring devices before getting behind the wheel. A Senate committee approved a provision today that would let judges make exceptions for offenders who have a low risk of repeat offenses.
NEWPORT, Ore. (AP) – A man who tried to light a cigarette while pumping gasoline in Newport was seriously burned when the vapor ignited. Firefighters said they used a dry chemical to put out the fire yesterday after a passer-by called for help. The man was fueling a pickup truck at a station where companies pay to be allowed self-service.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A young man who hit a 70-year-old store employee in the head with a skateboard last summer has been sentenced to five years in prison.
