PENDLETON, Ore. (AP) – Interstate 84 has reopened through northeast Oregon. State Police said ODOT reopened the highway about 2 a.m. A 50-mile stretch east of Pendleton had been closed by hazardous driving conditions. Stretches of I-84 have been closed at times since Monday because of freezing rain, fog and ice.
MEDFORD, Ore. (AP) – A 20-year-old Medford man who rammed his car through his ex-girlfriend’s bedroom wall, injuring her, has been sentenced to probation. Police say the former couple’s twin children were also inside the room early on Jan. 14 but were unhurt. The Mail Tribune reports that Matthew Olivares pleaded guilty in Jackson County to third-degree assault, DUI and three counts of recklessly endangering another person.
HILLSBORO, Ore. (AP) – An Oregon jury has convicted a 54-year-old man of murder in the 2012 shooting death of his daughter’s ex-boyfriend in a grocery store parking lot. Jurors in Hillsboro returned their verdict yesterday against Jeffrey Johnson. Killed was Ryan Johnson, the father of Jeffrey Johnson’s grandson. The two men are not related. The shooting was caught on a security camera.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Will Barton had a season-high 20 points and career-high 11 rebounds for the short-handed Portland Trail Blazers in a 124-80 rout of the Brooklyn Nets last night. The Blazers won their fourth straight game despite missing forward LaMarcus Aldridge who’s out with a groin sprain. Mo Williams scored 21 points and Nicolas Batum had 19 to lead seven Portland players in double figures.
