PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Steady rain has raised the landslide danger in northwest Oregon and southwest Washington. The Oregon Department of Geology has issued a warning for slides on saturated slopes in the Coast Range, Willapa Hills, north Oregon Cascades and Columbia River Gorge.
CLATSKANIE, Ore. (AP) – Oregon has proposed a $117,000 fine for an oil train terminal near Clatskanie for shipping more crude than permitted. State officials said yesterday that Global Partners violated state law by moving more oil than allowed. Global Partners has contested the violation and plans to appeal.
EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – Lane County is a front-runner in recycling old computers and other electronic devices. The state Department of Environmental Quality reports Lane County accounted for nearly 4 million of the 28 million pounds collected last year in the state program known as Oregon E-Cycles.
EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – All South Eugene High School junior Kyle Morrison needs is 30 seconds to memorize a 12-digit number. Kyle has been training off and on for the last two years to compete in a national memory championship. The Register Guard says he’s the only person from Oregon who will compete against 74 other “mental athletes” in the 17th annual memory competition tomorrow in New York City.
