DURHAM, Ore. (AP) – Oregon is set to make a final decision on whether to become the first state in the nation to drop its problem-plagued online health exchange and link up with the federal website. If Cover Oregon’s board decides today to make the change, the state would use HealthCare.Gov for private policies but keep using its current system for Medicaid enrollments.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A new indictment accuses a Coos Bay defense contractor of defrauding the military of $10.5 million by supplying phony truck and helicopter parts. The federal indictment names Harold Bettencourt, his company, Kustom Products Inc., and several family members and other employees. The investigation began when Army National Guard mechanics found defects in a critical nut that secures the rotor on the Kiowa armed scout helicopter in 2008.
CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) – State police say that all Oregon State University dorms have been checked and deemed safe for students after a bomb threat prompted the evacuation of all OSU campus residence halls. Corvallis police said last night that all students were allowed to return to their rooms. A phone message indicated that a bomb had been placed in an unspecified residence hall.
OREGON CITY, Ore. (AP) – An Oregon woman who had been scheduled for five trials in six days in Clackamas County Circuit Court lost the first one when she was convicted of harassment. Now a prosecutor says the other trials are postponed while both sides explore a plea deal. The Oregonian reports that the misdemeanors against 48-year-old Susan Funk involve threatening behavior or physical confrontation.
